I started by removing all of the caning:

I have never replaced the caning in a slice of article of furniture before, only it doesn't sound similar a fun mode to spend an afternoon to me.

Hither is what I did instead…

1. After removing the caning, I painted the chair with Behr's Bit of Sugar made into DIY chalk paint. (Recipe HERE.) So I followed upwardly with a adept sanding and a coat of Annie Sloan'due south Clear Soft Wax.

2. So I used my Ryobi jigsaw to cut a piece of fleck wood I had to fit the top.

3. I used small-scale nails in each corner to agree information technology in place.

iv. I cut four layers of batting to the same dimensions as the seat console I cut. (A thin piece of foam with a layer of batting on top would take been ideal, only this is what I had on manus.)

5. I cutting my fabric just a bit bigger than my chair and started stapling it in place along the right edge with my el cheapo staple gun. I butted my staples correct up confronting the edge of the wooden slice I cut.

half-dozen. And then I pulled my fabric taut and stapled up the other side.

seven.  Side by side I continued stapling across the front, then across the back, pulling it taut as I went also.

viii. I used my fabric pair of scissors to cutting the material as close the border of the staples as possible.

9. So I gathered what I needed to make double welt trim. Encounter my tutorial for that Hither. Basic sewing skills needed just for that one, I promise! Don't panic if y'all don't sew though, yous can e'er purchase gimp trim at your local fabric store every bit an alternative.

10. Tada…DIY double welt trim. That will hibernate all the staples!

11. Hot glue trim in place. I have this cordless Ryobi gum gun…awesome!

12. Stand back and relish!

Not also bad, right?

It is hardly noticeable unless you were looking for information technology.

This is one of my all-time favorite fabrics that I used to purchased from Hancock Fabrics when they were however in business. I notwithstanding have a few scraps and was able to slice enough together for this chair.

Michaels has bought their online concern, so I'chiliad hoping I might exist able to observe information technology again some day.

Remember I kept the little white chair that I did to get with this desk-bound? Well I figured this will exist a nice replacement. I'll exist dropping information technology off at my booth to go with that desk this weekend.

I had all the supplies I needed to fix this chair correct up, so the only out-of-pocket expense was the $six.98 + tax that I paid for the chair. Gotta love that!
